Secret Gardens of Tasha Tudor and Family Tours
Meet the family and join us for this rare opportunity; a walking tour of the Tudor Family property. We are pleased to introduce a few new features in 2011; a guided tour of Tasha's barn, outdoor hall, dairy, hen pantry and even a small portion of Tasha's home. Come and see the beautiful kitchen, where so many delightful tea parties took place. Want a preview? Look at her Hearth and Home cards; they're a true depiction.
The walking tour starts at the Rookery, after which we'll wind our way through the forest and leave the rest of the world behind as we climb the stone staircase to Amy and Winslow's garden. Next, we'll walk down the quiet gravel driveway to Seth Tudor's outdoor woodworking area, before enjoying the peaceful sights and scents of Marjorie's garden. Marjorie will also present her ever-popular Marionette demonstration in her Marionette Theatre. Guests are encouraged to try their hand at working the marionettes.
And that's not all! We'll get the group back together and walk the short distance to Tasha's Corgi Cottage. As mentioned above, a spectacular feature of the tour this year is a guided tour of a small portion of Tasha's home. But there is also lots of garden to see. Enjoy the beauty and peace of the Tudor property as your senses drink in the nurturing environment. As you might imagine tickets are very limited. Looking for something more 'hands-on'? You might enjoy our new Cottage Gardening with Tudor Family event.
The Secret Gardens of Tasha Tudor and Family tour involves 30 to 45 minutes of walking over gravel driveways and the family paths through the woods. This is not a walk for the faint of heart! You must be physically fit and be able to navigate uneven ground in the gardens and uneven ground with roots and rocks through the woods. You are advised to wear comfortable shoes (please, no high heels.)
At the end of the tour, light refreshments made from Tasha Tudor's Cookbook will be served and the Rookery Gift Shop featuring books, prints, cards, tea, videos, furniture, rare books and much more, will be open. The morning tours will begin at 9:00 and finish at noontime. Afternoon tours will begin at 2:30pm and finish at 5:30pm. Rain, shine or extreme heat, the event will go on as scheduled. Restrooms available before, halfway through and after tour.
Due to the private nature of the Tudor Family, cameras will not be allowed on the tour. However, we will take a group photo in Tasha's garden and mail copies a few weeks after the tour. You are welcome to take photographs at the Rookery.
