So-called six-board blanket chests like this one were very common in early American homes, and came in many sizes. Frequently an interior compartment, or till, was built into the chest, for holding small articles. The till lid was ingeniously constructed with two integral pins that served as hinges. Pattern cut out, to form feet, varies in shape, one sees arches, vees, s-curves. Probably the v was most basic. This little quarter-size doll chest is 8" long, 6" high and 4 1/2" deep. Till interior is approximately 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 4". Unfinished $65.00 Light stain $70.00 Painted exterior, stained interior $90.00 |
