  • Seed Collecting

On a partly-sunny day, when the skies are heavy with impending rain, but the sun refuses to be entirely hidden, the greens around Tasha's house are stunning. The leaves offer a hundred shades of green when the sunlight teases us and catches the dew.

Though the snow is on the ground spring is near. The trees are budding against the full moon, and the days are longer. Yet spring in the hills of New England is relative. It is near, only in that it may be seen from afar, rather than not at all.

Seed collecting is a time-honored, and time-consuming, process. But rewarding, as are so many old-fashioned pursuits. There is a pleasant beauty one can find in such a task. Amy Tudor, Tasha's granddaughter-in-law, as I'm sure you all know, has agreed to share her process.

Snow horses are a mainstay of winter, but only visit when the snow sticks properly. Tasha called it sugar snow, as it often falls around the time sap runs in the sugar maples. It sticks to all the branches of the trees and collects in great heights upon tops of fence posts and birdfeeders.
